The Time I Accidentally Sent a Mushy Love Text to the Wrong Person

Prior to my college graduation, I went on a trip to NYC for spring break with my roommates. I was engaged to Nazari and just months away from our wedding. While this was a super fun trip, there was definitely a part of me that wasn’t in it. My heart was still in Pittsburgh. I tried to be present and excited!
On the mega bus ride to the great apple, I drafted a long text to my guy. I gushed about my love for him and how much I would miss him - every part of him. I shared my favorite things about him and why I loved him so much and how I already couldn’t wait to be home and in his arms and was SOOOOOO excited to marry him. It was lengthy. It was mushy. It was corny and definitely a little cringe. But we were in loooooooove.

I was excited for him to get it. And maybe more excited for what he would write back.
A short while later, my phone pinged, and I grabbed it, disappointed to find that the text wasn’t from Nazari, but from my mom. I opened her text only to discover that my mushy message had not in fact been sent to nazari, but TO MY MOM.
I was mortified. The text was incriminating. Over the top. And I felt so exposed and embarrassed.
Anyway, I tried to explain it to my mom. Annnnnd also forwarded the original message to the rightful recipient - Noting that it had been first sent to his future mother in law. Whoops!
Thinking back on this series of events had me laughing. And also reminiscing those crazy years where we would write PARAGRAPHS of messages on the regular professing our love. Dreaming of our future. Throwing out compliments like candy and making each other feel like a million bucks.
And now, I can’t recall the last time I sent my husband a text that I would be embarrassed for my mom to read. Whether be it the spice level, or simply the cringiness over the love fest in the words.
Often the day to day is far from romantic. But I remember those early years of dating and how a ridiculously over the top message could turn your day around. Cheer you up. Break up the mundane. And get you really excited for the next time you’d see one another.
It’s so simple. Yet the impact can be profound. I dare you to stop your scroll right now, and go draft out a mushy, over the top, PG 13 message gushing to your better half.. Seriously…. Do it ;)
